Complete guide to Italian customs (ADM) rules and EU entry requirements
Italy is an EU and Schengen member, so standard EU customs allowances apply. The Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM) enforces them, with different limits for EU and non-EU arrivals. Visa-exempt travellers need ETIAS authorisation from 2026. Heated tobacco and vapes are legal; cash over €10,000 must be declared.
Entry Process
- 1Apply for ETIAS before travel (visa-exempt nationals, from 2026)
- 2Schengen passport control if arriving from outside Schengen
- 3Collect checked baggage
- 4Use Green Channel (nothing to declare) or Red Channel (goods to declare)
Prohibited Items
- Meat & Dairy (non-EU)Most animal products from outside the EU are prohibited
- Counterfeit GoodsFake branded products are seized and can be fined

Declaration Tips
