- •Fresh, frozen and other uncanned chicken and poultry (including vacuum-sealed items) are not allowed into Australia unless accompanied by an import permit. Commercially manufactured, retorted (canned) poultry products in shelf-stable cans, jars or retort pouches are permitted — the requirement to be manufactured in a country approved as free from foot-and-mouth disease does not apply to canned poultry meat. Poultry jerky/biltong is allowed in amounts up to 1 kilogram if it is shelf stable, commercially prepared and packaged in sealed (unopened) packaging, and for the importer's personal consumption. Commercially manufactured, very finely shredded poultry meat floss (with no identifiable meat pieces) is also allowed. The concession for uncanned New Zealand meat does not cover products of avian origin. All poultry products must be declared on arrival and may be inspected.
