📝 Important Notes

  • •There is no maximum amount of money you may bring into or take out of Canada. Declare CAD 10,000 or more. Add together cash in all currencies and reportable monetary instruments, including applicable cheques, bank drafts and money orders. Exactly CAD 10,000 requires declaration.
  • •Convert foreign currencies using the Bank of Canada rate at the time of crossing; do not rely on a fixed US-dollar estimate. The rule covers what you physically carry in your possession or baggage, not your bank balance.
  • •Each traveller is responsible for the amount in their actual possession or baggage, even when family members use one declaration card. Money carried for someone else also counts: tell CBSA who owns it. This is not a blanket combined family allowance.
  • •Tell a border officer and follow the reporting process. E677 is for carrying your own funds; E667 applies in other reporting cases. If departing by air, report to CBSA before leaving. Keep the completed report. Failure to declare can lead to seizure and penalties.
