- •To keep out African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease, Taiwan bans passengers from bringing in any meat product of land animals without an official quarantine certificate — which travellers never have. Every form counts: fresh, frozen, cured, dried, smoked; jerky, meat floss, sausages, ham, meat-filled buns, mooncakes and instant noodles with meat. The one exception: commercially high-temperature-sterilised canned food (and qualifying retort-pouch food) is exempt from animal quarantine — a sealed can of Spam or corned beef is fine; vacuum-packed jerky or sausage is not.
