- •Category F2 (standard fireworks): sold to consumers only Dec 29-31 (from Dec 28 if one of those days is a Sunday); adults 18+ may only set them off on Dec 31 and Jan 1 (Silvester). Outside these dates only holders of an explosives permit, certificate of competence or official exemption may buy or use them. Municipalities can restrict times or ban fireworks locally.
- •Import: Only approved fireworks (CE mark plus registration number, e.g. 0589-F2-1234) may be brought in: F1 year-round from age 12, F2 year-round from age 18. F2 flash-powder firecrackers/batteries, rockets with more than 20 g net explosive mass, Schwärmer and single whistle items require a special permit; F3/F4 always require a special permit. Unapproved fireworks are seized, no traveller allowance applies and criminal proceedings are always opened. Declare fireworks at customs when importing or transiting from a non-EU country; this declaration is not required from EU countries, but the other rules still apply. BAM recommends buying fireworks for use in Germany in Germany.
